Physiological and histopathological effects of electroporation pulse on stomach of rats

Abstract Background Irreversible electroporation (IRE) is an emerging tissue ablation technique with widespread potential, especially for cancer treatment. Although the safety and efficacy of IRE gastric have been demonstrated, there a gap knowledge regarding effect pulse (EP) on physiology histopathology stomach. This study applied EP to stomach healthy rats investigated digestive function, serum marker levels, structure EP-treated rats. Methods Ninety male were divided into nine groups examined up 28 days post-treatment. A single burst (500 V, 99 pluses, 1 Hz, 100 µs) was delivered stomachs using tweezer-style round electrode. Gastric emptying, small intestinal transit, secretion measured evaluate function. Serum levels determined ELISA. Haematoxylin–eosin, Masson trichrome, immunofluorescence performed histopathological analysis. Results No significant emptying or found post-EP, whereas transit decreased at 4 h rapidly recovered normal 1-day post-EP. Further, TNF-α IL-1β temporarily changed during acute phase but returned baseline within days. Moreover, analysis revealed that cell death occurred immediately post-EP in area, wall scaffold region remained intact Conclusions demonstrates lays foundation more comprehensive applications this technique.
